A jar of palm oil beside fresh fruit bunches in the Honduran countryside

One pride, three engines.

From fruit to oil, from effluent to energy, and from oil to biodiesel: this is how the virtuous cycle of GRUPO COINSU works.

Division 01 · Est. 2011

Extraction leader in Honduras.

Corporación Industrial de Sula

COINSU is a Honduran company dedicated to producing crude palm oil, palm kernel oil and palm kernel meal, from Non GMO oil palm harvested on our associated farms. We were born as a pilot project of our founding families and, thanks to technology pioneering in Latin America, we remain the national leaders in extraction and milling. We are now expanding our plant from 30 to 45 tonnes of fruit per hour.

What we produce, within the scope of our QMS.

Crude palm oil in a laboratory beaker beside palm fruit

Crude palm oil (CPO)

Obtained by milling the fruit of Elaeis guineensis. Non GMO, from certified seed, deep orange in colour and semi-solid at room temperature.

Palm kernel oil served on a palm leaf

Palm kernel oil

Extracted from the kernel of the palm fruit. High saponification value and excellent stability; semi-solid at room temperature.

Palm kernel meal for animal feed concentrate

Palm kernel meal

A by-product of the kernel, widely used in the diet of dairy ruminants, poultry and other farm animals for its nutritional content.

By-products and supporting activities.

Oil palm bunches and empty fruit bunches

Empty fruit bunches

The receptacle of the fruit bunches, used for combustion in industrial boilers and for energy generation within the Group.

Fields fertilised with organic ash

Ash

Potassium from bunches and empty fruit bunches is incinerated into ash: an organic fertiliser that returns to the plantations and reduces the use of chemicals.

Nursery of certified Non GMO COINSU seedlings

Our own nursery

Seedlings from certified Non GMO seed, treated organically until they are ready for planting in 8 to 9 months.

Division 02 · Est. 2013

Bioenergy in a closed loop.

Group Energy Oil Palm S.A. de C.V.

We produce bioenergy from the treatment of effluent generated by the oil extraction of our sister division COINSU. We add value to by-products in a closed-loop process that mitigates our impact on the environment.

Biogas

Process effluent goes straight into huge digesters. With the resulting biogas we run every division of GRUPO COINSU — and by capturing methane, we avoid greenhouse gases.

Electricity

We have generated electricity from biogas since 2014. Today we have over 2 MW installed and are expanding energy sales to third parties and to the national grid (ENEE).

Division 03 · Est. 2015

Biolubricants and biodiesel.

Biocombustibles y Salud, S.A. de C.V.

We turn Honduran palm oil into clean energy and clean lubrication: distilled B100 biodiesel with over 96 % ester purity and a line of renewable-based food-grade biolubricants, free of MOSH and MOAH, formulated to meet NSF H1 and ISO 21469.
